OCR Document Recognition Limits

We’ve been running document checks for a marketplace project, and the results vary a lot depending on what people upload. Standard passports usually go through without much trouble, but things get messy with older IDs or documents that have been renewed a dozen times. Utility bills and paper-based documents seem especially unpredictable. I’m trying to figure out if this is just normal OCR behavior or if some document types are always going to be problematic no matter what tool you use.

From what I’ve seen, clean and standardized documents are always the easiest. When we tested https://ocrstudio.ai/document-verification/, passports and modern ID cards with clear layouts worked really well, even from phone photos. The biggest issues came from documents with inconsistent formats, mixed languages, or heavy stamps and folds. Proof-of-address docs were the trickiest because people upload everything from scans to photos of crumpled paper. We ended up narrowing the accepted formats to keep things manageable.
